Fun Super Bowl Facts
...including one that will destroy Bills fans
Happy Monday! If such a thing can exist. Super Bowl 58 came and went, with the Chiefs winning their 3rd championship in 5 years. Today, we look at some insane stats and information as we bid farewell to the ‘23-’24 NFL season.
Some stats that don’t sound real but are:
Patrick Mahomes has now won more playoff games (15) than Peyton Manning’s entire career (14)
No team has lost to Kirk Cousins and won the Super Bowl the same year. Niners lost to the Vikings 17-22 in week 7.
Kyle Shanahan has had 3 double digit leads in 3 Super Bowls (one as OC with the Falcons, two as HC with the Niners). He has lost all 3 and been outscored 68-12 in the 4th quarter and OT.
There have been 7 double digit comebacks in Super Bowl history. Patrick Mahomes has 3 of them.
The Chiefs are the first team ever to trail 4 separate times in a Super Bowl and win.
Christian McCaffrey is the first player to ever to have 75+ yards rushing and 75+ yards receiving in a Super Bowl.
Jauan Jennings is the first WR ever to both throw and catch a TD pass in a postseason game.
The Bills have the 2nd-best QB of his generation.
Over the past 4 seasons, the Bills have outscored their opponents more than any other team by an absolute mile.
But their 3 best teams ran into Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs 3 times and they have nothing to show for it.

Touchdowns scored on the Chiefs this postseason: Dolphins, Ravens, and 49ers - 4. Josh Allen - 3. The Chiefs won every game.
The Cowboys won 3 Super Bowls in 5 years between ‘93-’97. They haven’t been to a conference championship game since. (This ones for Raiders fans and Eagles fans)
The Chiefs faced the hardest postseason road to a title ever based on regular season DVOA of their opponents
Mahomes vs Brady in their first 7 seasons
There have been 4 teams since 2000 favored in all 17 regular season games and to win the Super Bowl entering the playoffs - ‘01-’02 Rams, ‘07-’08 Patriots, ‘17-’18 Patriots, and now the ‘23-’24 Niners. Those teams all lost the Super Bowl.
Mahomes was an underdog in 3 straight games going into the Super Bowl for the first time in his career. He is now 4-0 all time as an underdog.
Rashee Rice set a rookie record for most catches in a postseason with 26.
Only two Super Bowls have ever gone into OT. Kyle Shanahan was a coach for both losing teams (Falcons OC in ‘16-’17).
Jake Moody set the record for longest made FG in Super Bowl history with a 55 yarder in the 2nd quarter. The record stood for 24:47 of elapsed game time, when Harrison Butker nailed a 57 yarder with 5:01 left in the 3rd quarter. Moody did walk away with another record when he hit a a 53 yarder in the 4th, becoming the only kicker to hit multiple 50+ yarders in a Super Bowl.
Going into this game, all kickers in NFL history have combined to convert 46% of all Super Bowl field goal attempts of 50 yards or more. Moody and Butker went 3 for 3.
Most surprising Super Bowl stat I learned this week: Rookie kickers have actually been good in the big game.
Rookie kickers in the Super Bowl: 88.2% on field goals.
Non-rookie kickers: 73.2% on field goals. #49ers#Chiefs#SuperBowlDetails here: cbssports.com/nfl/news/2024-…

With back to back championships, the Chiefs are one of 7 teams to win two in a row, joining the Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers (twice), San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, and New England Patriots. They also now have a chance to do something never done in NFL history: win 3 straight Super Bowls.
